In a significant advancement for India’s renewable energy infrastructure, Khavda II-B Transmission Limited, a subsidiary entirely owned by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd., has announced the successful commissioning of a pivotal project aimed at enhancing the nation’s power capabilities. The project, known as “Transmission Plan for Evacuating 4.5GW of Renewable Energy at Khavda PS in Phase-II, Part-B,” was officially completed on December 13, 2025, with the Notification for Commercial Operation (DOCO) issued on December 18, 2025.

This milestone was achieved under the framework of Competitive Bidding Through Tariff Mechanisms and marks a crucial step in India’s commitment to bolstering its renewable energy output. The project specifically facilitates the transmission of a substantial Four and a half gigawatts of clean, sustainable energy, which is expected to play a major role in meeting the country’s escalating energy demands while adhering to environmental sustainability objectives.

The completion of this project is not just a technical achievement but also a testament to POWERGRID’s capabilities in handling large-scale and complex energy transmission challenges. It underscores the company’s role in national development, particularly in the transition towards clean energy.

The Khavda II-B transmission project includes the installation of state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure that are designed to handle high-capacity energy transfers efficiently and reliably. The system will serve as a backbone for the distribution of renewable energy generated in one of India’s potential-rich renewable energy zones.

The impact of this newly commissioned project is manifold. Economically, it promises to enhance the reliability of power supply across regions, thereby fostering economic activities and attracting new investments. Environmentally, it supports India’s goals for sustainable development and its commitments under various international environmental agreements by significantly contributing to the lowering carbon emissions.

Looking forward, POWERGRID Khavda II-B Transmission Limited continues to focus on expanding its portfolio with similar high-impact projects that align with global energy transition trends. As India continues to make strides in renewable energy, the successful commissioning of projects like these is crucial for the nation’s energy security and ecological commitments.

This achievement not only highlights POWERGRID’s role in shaping India’s energy landscape but also sets a benchmark for future projects in the realm of renewable energy transmission. With the operational commencement of this project, India moves a step closer to achieving its ambitious renewable energy targets, setting a precedent for future endeavors in sustainable energy solutions.
