Petronet LNG Showcases Expansive Growth Plans and Innovation at India Energy Week
New Delhi: During a media visit to the Petronet LNG pavilion at India Energy Week, MD & CEO Mr. Akshay Kumar Singh shared the company’s ambitious plans for growth and its pivotal role in India’s natural gas sector. The visit, headed by FIPI Media Advisor Mr. Rajive Jain, highlighted Petronet’s strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s energy security. Currently, Petronet LNG handles nearly 70–75% of the total liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports in India, contributing to 51% of the country’s natural gas consumption. Mr. Singh emphasized that Petronet is a key player in ensuring the steady availability of natural gas across India. Expansion of its infrastructure is well underway. The Dahej terminal, one of the world’s largest LNG terminals, is increasing its capacity from 17.5 million tons per annum (MTPA) to 22.5 MTPA, with the expansion expected to be completed in the next few months. Meanwhile, the Kochi terminal, which has a capacity of 5 MTPA, will see improved utilization with the completion of the GAIL pipeline to Bengaluru by the end of this year. In addition to LNG, Petronet is developing a 20,685-crore petrochemical complex, targeted for completion by October 2027. The plant will utilize cold energy from the existing terminal to optimize operating costs. A unique multi-product jetty is also being built to handle LNG, ethane, and propane at the same facility, enhancing efficiency. These developments reflect Petronet LNG’s commitment to supporting India’s energy transition with cutting-edge infrastructure and sustainable practices.
