Fire at HPCL Rajasthan Refinery contained with no casualties; investigation ongoing

Mumbai, April 21, 2026: A fire broke out on April 20, 2026, at the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL) facility, particularly within its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU). Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have started due to a hydrocarbon leak from a valve or flange in the heat exchanger circuit.

The incident was contained within the heat exchanger stack. Quick action ensured that the CDU, Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU), and other nearby units were isolated and remain structurally sound, with no other parts of the refinery affected.

HRRL’s emergency response team efficiently managed the situation, extinguishing the fire swiftly. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported.

An in-depth investigation is currently underway to pinpoint the exact cause of the fire and to implement any necessary safety enhancements. Although the financial and operational impacts are still being evaluated, initial indications suggest that the effects will not be significant.

HPCL has reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining the highest safety standards, effective emergency response protocols, and rigorous adherence to industry best practices.
