Prayagraj, February 17, 2026: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), recognized as a Fortune Global 500 entity and classified as a Maharatna PSU, has recently celebrated the launch of a new solar power facility in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, marking a pivotal advancement in its shift towards renewable energy sources.
The opening of this facility was conducted remotely by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, the esteemed Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, coinciding with India Energy Week. This event highlighted BPCL’s dedication to increasing its renewable energy capacities and aligning with India’s objectives for sustainable energy development.
The newly inaugurated solar facility boasts a capacity of 71 MWp (DC) / 52 MW (AC) and is projected to produce around 103.61 million units of environmentally friendly electricity each year. This production capacity is anticipated to cut down carbon emissions by 75,150 metric tons annually, which is roughly equivalent to the environmental impact of planting about 1.25 crore trees.
Occupying 210 acres, the solar plant comprises 1.29 lakh solar modules and is built with 1,324 metric tons of structural steel along with roughly 294 kilometers of cabling. It is linked to the power grid via a 132 kV transmission line, which facilitates the efficient and dependable delivery of solar energy.
The renewable energy generated will be directed to BPCL’s refineries in Mumbai, Bina, and Kochi, aiding in the transition to more environmentally friendly production processes and underscoring the corporation’s pledge to sustainable and reduced-carbon energy practices.
This initiative is part of BPCL’s ongoing commitment to embed renewable energy solutions into its main business activities, supporting not only its own sustainability goals but also contributing to the national climate and energy transition strategies. BPCL continues to drive forward its sustainability agenda with initiatives focused on promoting cleaner energy sources, enhancing operational efficiencies, and pursuing growth responsibly.
