BPCL’s Big Moves: Suresh Gopi’s 2026 Tamil Nadu Agenda

In Coimbatore on May 26, 2026, Shri Suresh Gopi, the esteemed Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Tourism, presided over an important gathering focused on evaluating the advancement of significant BPCL initiatives in Tamil Nadu. This session also tackled urgent matters requiring immediate attention.

During the conference, Shri Suresh Gopi assessed several major undertakings, including the Irugur–Devanagonthi Multi Product Pipeline Project, which is currently at 82.6% completion and has an updated cost estimate of approximately ₹1,732 crore. Additionally, he examined the progress of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) initiative for the Erode and Nilgiris districts, which shows a 44.6% completion rate and involves an investment of about ₹3,685 crore.

The Irugur–Devanagonthi project, designed to transport multiple types of products, is crucial for enhancing the connectivity between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The project features a 355 km long multi-product pipeline and associated terminal facilities. It aims to boost the efficiency and safety of fuel transport across western Tamil Nadu and adjacent areas, promoting a more sustainable movement of petroleum products. Furthermore, this project is expected to substantially contribute to regional energy infrastructure, augment logistical operations, generate employment, and foster sustained industrial and economic development.

The meeting saw the participation of Shri Subhankar Sen, Director (Marketing) of BPCL, and included the District Collector of Tiruppur. Representatives from the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), State Highways Department, other district and state officials, and key stakeholders involved in the projects were also present.

There was a thorough exchange on the current status of the projects, critical challenges encountered in the implementation, and necessary steps to ensure their timely completion. This session underscored the government’s commitment to addressing infrastructure needs and enhancing the overall energy sector’s efficacy in the region.
