New Delhi, July 13 — The race for the position of Director (Marketing) at Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has entered its final leg, with interviews scheduled to be conducted by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on Monday at 11:30 AM.
According to reliable sources familiar with the selection process, the PESB will conduct the interviews of shortlisted candidates tomorrow as part of its formal process to recommend a suitable name for one of IOCL’s top leadership role.
Speculation within the sector is running high, Industry observers remain divided on the familiar question whether the next Director (Marketing) will be appointed from within IOCL’s existing leadership or chosen from outside the organization. While some argue that an internal candidate is most likely to be selected, others maintain that the selection process should remain open and merit-based, without any formal restriction favoring internal candidates. The selection also acquires a special significance in the background of far reaching changes being contemplated in the Oil & Gas sector.
Sources in the know, told NewsIP that candidates coded as 1, 2, and 7 are currently seen as frontrunners in the selection process. However, candidates numbered 3 and 6 are also being viewed as potential dark horses who could emerge as surprise picks.
The final recommendation from PESB will be keenly awaited by both industry stakeholders and those who observe government closely. It remains to be seen whether a name will be announced promptly—or whether the process could witness a, by now, familiar ‘twist’, as has occurred in other top PSU appointments.
