Grand Closing of Tehri Water Sports Cup 2023 Celebrated in Rishikesh

Rishikesh, September 18, 2023: The highly anticipated four-day spectacle, the “Tehri Water Sports Cup-2023,” organized by THDC India Limited at the picturesque Tehri Lake, concluded on September 17, 2023, with a magnificent closing ceremony graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries. Chief Guest Sh. Satpal Maharaj, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Tourism, Irrigation, and Culture, Government of Uttarakhand, presided over the event, accompanied by Sh. J. Behera, Director(Finance) THDCIL, Sh. L. P. Joshi, Head of Project (Tehri Complex), Sh. Prashant Kushwaha, President of the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association, Dr. D. K. Singh, Secretary General of the Uttarakhand Olympic Association, and several other distinguished guests.

During his address to the gathering, Sh. Satpal Maharaj praised THDC’s outstanding contributions to energy harnessing and its commitment to the nation’s growth and socio-economic development. He expressed his warm appreciation for the victorious participants and athletes, underscoring the importance of nurturing young talent and fostering a vibrant sporting culture in India.

Sh. J. Behera, Director (Finance), extended heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and participants. He highlighted the successful organization of the Open National Canoeing Sprint Senior Championship, in collaboration with the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association, Uttarakhand Olympic Association, and technical partner ITBP. The championship, held from September 14th to 17th, 2023, featured 450 players from 22 states, with eight teams qualifying for the 37th National Games in Goa scheduled for October 2023.

Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDCIL, emphasized the company’s pivotal role as a leading power generator and its dedication to societal development. He underscored the transformative potential of sporting events in motivating and inspiring the younger generation to participate in national-level championships, instilling a sense of pride and nationalism. Sh. Vishnoi highlighted THDC’s ongoing encouragement of Uttarakhand’s youth to engage in adventure sports such as kayaking and canoeing.

Furthermore, Sh. Vishnoi emphasized the diverse impact of these events, including employment generation, boosting tourism, and nurturing a robust sports culture within the state. He proudly noted that Tehri Lake was gaining international recognition through such esteemed sporting activities. Sh. Vishnoi reaffirmed THDC India Limited’s commitment to contributing significantly to the nation’s growth and development while actively promoting sportsmanship and adventure.

Sh. L. P. Joshi, Head of Project (Tehri Complex), extended his gratitude to the THDCIL management for their guidance and support in successfully hosting this national-level water sports competition.
