On January 26, 2026, NHPC marked India’s 77th Republic Day with vibrant celebrations at all its facilities. The event began vigorously at the NHPC Residential Colony in Faridabad, where Shri Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, hoisted the National Flag. This was followed by a collective rendition of the National Anthem and Vande Mataram, witnessed by Shri Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel), Shri Mahesh Kumar Sharma, Director (Finance), other senior officials, employees, and their families.
During his speech, Shri Bhupender Gupta conveyed Republic Day wishes to the NHPC community and emphasized the corporation’s alignment with the foundational principles of the Indian Constitution. He spoke about NHPC’s role in bolstering national energy security through sustainable sources, such as hydropower, solar, and wind energy. Shri Gupta paid homage to the architects of the Constitution, including Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and acknowledged the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters and soldiers.
He further highlighted NHPC’s significant contributions to the power sector, noting that it accounts for about 17% of India’s total hydropower capacity and is responsible for over half of the hydropower projects currently under construction in the country. With an impressive capacity of 8,582.90 MW, NHPC is actively increasing its investments in renewable energy projects, particularly in India’s remote and border areas, thus promoting regional progress and social advancement.
Shri Gupta praised NHPC employees for their resilience in working under challenging conditions and reiterated the organization’s dedication to maintaining transparency, safety, quality, sustainability, and timely completion of projects. These efforts align with the Prime Minister’s Panchamrit objectives and the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The festivities included a lively cultural show featuring patriotic songs and dances by the NHPC family and the Team Revolution Group, which enthralled the attendees. Furthermore, the event was broadcast live via webcasting to NHPC locations nationwide, ensuring that all employees could partake in the celebrations.
