NBCC (India) Limited, a prominent Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise operating under the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, has entered into a significant agreement with the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) to spearhead the Naveen Nagpur Project. This project is set to be a substantial urban development, covering around 692 hectares (1,710 acres).

This collaborative initiative follows an earlier Memorandum of Understanding signed on September 8, 2025, which designated NBCC as both the Executing and Implementing Agency and the Project Management Consultant (PMC). The project, with an initial phase budget of approximately Rs 2966 crore, represents a major step in regional urban planning.

Project Details and Objectives

The Naveen Nagpur Project aims to create a modern, sustainable urban area that will feature a blend of residential, commercial, institutional, and social infrastructures. As the lead agency, NBCC will be responsible for creating the Detailed Project Report (DPR), conducting financial feasibility assessments, managing architectural and engineering designs, handling the tendering process, supervising construction activities, and ensuring the delivery of top-tier infrastructure. The project’s focus will be on quality, safety, sustainability, and inclusivity, adhering to all regulatory standards and embracing green building practices.

Organizational Structure and Oversight

To facilitate effective management and timely execution, an Empowered Committee will be established under the leadership of the Metropolitan Commissioner, NMRDA. This committee will comprise senior officials from both NBCC and NMRDA and will handle tasks such as plan approval, deviation review, issue resolution, timeline monitoring, and overall project performance assessment. Their findings and progress will be regularly reported to the Steering Committee of the Government of Maharashtra.

Impact and Expectations

The agreement between NBCC and NMRDA is poised to dramatically transform Nagpur’s urban landscape. The project is designed to substantially enhance the city’s infrastructure, mobility systems, urban amenities, and environmental sustainability. Leveraging NBCC’s vast experience in executing large-scale infrastructure projects both in India and internationally, this project is expected to be completed within three to five years, subject to approvals from the Empowered Committee.

Through the Naveen Nagpur Project, both entities aim to significantly contribute to Nagpur’s long-term development and to set a benchmark in urban redevelopment and sustainability.
