Today marked the inaugural ceremony for GAIL’s forthcoming research and development center located in Sector 22 of the Industrial Model Township in Sohna, Haryana. The event was presided over by Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL, alongside Shri Rajeev Kumar Singhal, Director (Business Development), and other top executives from GAIL (India) Limited.
The facility is set to become a cutting-edge, forward-thinking hub for innovation that will enhance GAIL’s expertise in both its fundamental business areas and new ventures in clean energy. Occupying a vast area of 30 acres, the center will boast first-rate laboratory environments and state-of-the-art pilot-scale installations aimed at translating lab research into practical field applications. The expansive 85,000 square meter site will incorporate seven key research areas: Natural Gas Pipeline Integrity & Asset Management, Natural Gas Applications & NG/CO₂ Valorization, Petrochemicals & Polymers, Renewables, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, and Advanced Analytical Sciences.
Moreover, the center will feature high-tech pilot facilities including closed-loop pipeline testing systems, linear pull-through rigs, and pilot reactors dedicated to polymer development and natural gas/CO₂ valorization. These installations are designed to test and validate new processes, materials, and technologies pertinent to pipelines and sustainable energy in conditions mirroring real-world industry settings.
This new R&D center is poised to significantly bolster indigenous technology development, promote partnerships with academic bodies and startups, and aid in India’s quest towards an energy-efficient future. During the ceremony, GAIL reiterated its dedication to establishing a premier institution that will drive innovation-centric growth and fulfill the ambitions of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
