Maharastra 6 October-2026: An Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) field officer lost his life during an official takeover process at a non-operational retail outlet in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district.
Shri Mahesh Shelke, Field Officer for the Nanded North Retail Sales Area under the Solapur Divisional Office, was fatally stabbed at M/s Sai Umesh Petroleum in Amba village, Vasmat taluka. The attack was allegedly carried out by the son of the outlet’s dealer as corporate officials conducted the formal repossession of the nil-selling petrol pump.
The incident occurred in during his visit to the outlet along with Shri G Mani Prasad, Senior Manager (Retail Sales) at the Nanded Sales Office, alongside the dealer of Sarthak Petroleum. Preliminary site reports confirmed that Shelke succumbed to his injuries on the spot before being transported by ambulance to the local Civil Hospital.
According to initial reports from the Solapur Divisional Office, the retail outlet had been inactive for several months, having taken its last fuel delivery in May 2026. Official dialogue between IOCL personnel and the dealer regarding the surrender of the outlet had taken place the previous day, with the dealer explicitly requesting officials to visit the site to finalize the handover. Law enforcement authorities were subsequently notified as preliminary procedures commenced.
