Corporate Bloodbath
An expert’s opinion : Has the blood of employees of a leading PSU Oil Company turned to water? On 6th Oct a field Officer of the Company was brutally killed at a Petrol Pump by attackers. The brazen attack was perpetrated while the Officer was carrying out the official takeover process of a non operational Petrol Pump.

Surprisingly, instead of an eruption of anger and emotion, over the incident, the response from employees and management was subdued barring a token protest letter. Does it indicate that such incidents are to be taken in the stride? Experts opine that it could be of a much greater malaise. The ubiquitous ‘Chlta Hai.’

They also point out that such incidents have occurred in past and an IIM alumini had also lost his life in a similar incident. On which even a movie was made. Oil & Gas should consider such operational activity as hazardous. Adequate compensation with employment to next of kin should be mandatory.

The managements are fully aware of the dangers associated with such job assignments. What are the precautions taken? Is an armed Policeman provided for such dangerous activity? Is there any special additional Insurance provided? the answer is a resounding NO. Is there a case of vicarious liability also.

The deceased officer is a martyr who deserves special commendation and praise for heroism. A mere condolence message to his family would be akin to an insult.

Observers also aver that it is quite possible that subsequently, the entire water is muddied by speculation on Graft and Corruption. Whatever happens the Indian Labour and common man should take note and not only express anguish but stand with the deceased hapless family.
