Temperatures rise in Indian Gas Sector

New Delhi : It appears there is some conflict between Gas Companies and the Government over CNG Allocation. NewsIP has been informed by reliable sources that as of October 16, 2024, tensions between gas companies and the government are escalating, particularly over the allocation of CNG gas. Gas companies fear that if the allocations are reduced, they will be forced to rely on expensive RLNG (Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas), which could negatively impact their profits. Currently, it is estimated that companies are making a profit of over ₹25 per kilogram of CNG. However, the government is keen to keep CNG prices lower than other fuels to encourage people to switch to this alternative energy source. Both public and private gas companies have presented their cases to the Ministry. It remains to be seen whether there will be any changes to CNG prices in the near future, which would impact both the industry and consumers.

There are also some discussions amongst those in the know that some Private players have in fact already increased rates.
