CBI Cracks Down on Corruption: High-Profile Arrests Made

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its crackdown on corruption with the recent arrests of two government officials in separate bribery cases, one from the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and another from the Divisional Railway Hospital in Nanded, Maharashtra.

In the first incident, the CBI acted upon a complaint from a private company proprietor who alleged that an Auditor/Personnel from the Integrated Financial Advisor (IFA), part of CGDA in Gandhinagar, demanded a bribe of Rs. 4 lakh. This amount represented 2% of the total bid value of Rs. 2.5 crore related to a CCTV project at the Air Force base in Pune, for expediting the issuance of a Supply Order.

Responding swiftly, the CBI set a trap and apprehended the official on September 30, 2025, while he was accepting a reduced bribe amount of Rs. 3.5 lakh. Following the arrest, the official was presented before a Special Judge in Pune. He was initially taken into custody in Ahmedabad before being transferred and remanded to police custody until October 4, 2025.

The second case emerged when allegations surfaced against the Chief Office Superintendent of the Divisional Railway Hospital in Nanded. It was reported that he demanded a bribe of Rs. 25,000 to facilitate the processing of pending bills and a Performance Guarantee totaling Rs. 2.16 lakh. After some negotiation, the bribe amount was settled at Rs. 20,000. The CBI organized a sting operation and caught the superintendent in the act of receiving the bribe at his residence on September 29, 2025. He was arrested immediately following the operation.

Post-arrest, extensive searches were carried out at both the residential and official premises of the accused individuals, leading to the seizure of incriminating documents and other evidence. These findings could potentially assist in further unraveling the depth of corrupt practices within these departments.

The ongoing investigations by the CBI underscore the agency’s commitment to eradicating corruption and ensuring transparency within public services. These cases also highlight the role of vigilant citizens and the importance of reporting unethical behavior, which aids in holding public officials accountable.

As the investigations continue, further details are expected to emerge, potentially leading to more actions against those involved in corrupt activities. The CBI’s proactive measures in these cases reflect their relentless pursuit of integrity and justice in government operations.
