BPCL-Lubes Unveils Immersion Cooling Tech at IEW 2025

News Delhi: India – In a groundbreaking innovation showcased at India Energy Week 2025, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) -Lubes Business Unit has introduced a revolutionary Immersion Cooling Solution designed to enhance server cooling efficiency in data centers.

During the course of interaction with Mr Sohail Akhtar , Chief General Manager , Marketing- Lubes , he opined ,”India’s data center infrastructure is poised for massive expansion—from the current 1 GW to over 3.4 GW by 2030—and thereforenergy-efficient cooling solutions have become imperative. The increasing adoption of AI, Big Data, Blockchain, and Fintech is pushing power consumption per server rack from 10-40 kW to 110-140 kW, making traditional air-cooling methods inefficient and unsustainable”.

To address this challenge, BPCL, in collaboration with Refroid, has co-developed MAK SMARTKOOL, a single-phase dielectric coolant for immersion cooling systems. This synthetic hydrocarbon-based solution is biodegradable, non-hazardous, and offers superior thermal conductivity compared to air, enabling data centers to achieve a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) as low as 1.05—a significant improvement over the current industry average of 1.65.

By adopting Liquid Immersion Cooling, data centers can cut energy consumption and carbon emissions by up to 40%, reducing strain on vital resources like water and electricity. At scale, every 1 GW of data center capacity using this technology can save enough power to supply 2 million households for an entire year.

BPCL’s , MAK Lubricants Made-in-India innovation is a major step towards sustainable solutions for data data centers, ensuring that India’s digital revolution progresses with minimal environmental impact.
