The Government of Arunachal has terminated MOA with various private power developers

The Government of Arunachal has terminated memorandums of agreement with various private power developers as they “showed less interest” in executing projects allotted to them. The projects which have been withdrawn from private developers are now being handed over to central public sector understandings.

Our energy expert told that when the Subhanshree Lower project was started, there was a lot of protests regarding this project, big incidents were carried out in Assam, in a way, the project was completely stopped, seeing which the private companies were scared and they did not start any work on those projects, whenever such projects are made, the state government has to give 12 percent to 15 percent free power supply, which is a huge benefit without money. , As soon as NHPC’s Subhanshree project was completed Arunachal government felt that only Indian government’s psus can complete such project.

Arunachal Pradesh has allotted five projects of 5097 MW to SJVN. All the allocated projects are situated in tributaries of the Dibang River. The allocated projects are 3097 MW Etalin, 680 MW Attunli, 500MW Emini, 420 Amulin, and 400 MW Mihumdon.  3097 MW Etalin and 680 MW Attunli were earlier allocated to private players as there was no physical progress in both projects the projects now have been allotted to SJVN. In addition, SJVN projects are also been allocated to other central public sector understandings namely NEEPCO, NHPC, and THDC.

Almost all the projects related to power generation in Arunachal Pradesh which were in private hands. Since last 20 years no progress has been seen in them, thus cancellation of them is an important step by the Government of Arunachal.
we appreciate the confidence of the Government that the trust reposed by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh on the Government of India PSUs will be maintained and want to assure the Government of Arunachal that all the projects awarded to the PSUs will be completed at the earliest. The government of Arunachal Pradesh has considered his proposition of One Basin One Developer and allocated all 5 projects in Dibang Basin, which will result in optimal resource utilization and timely completion of projects. The development of these projects will involve an investment of more than R. 50000 crores, while construction of these projects will reduce carbon emissions to the tune of around 1.1 Million Tonnes per year. agreement for the implementation of these projects will be signed soon in an event which will be graced by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Sh. Pema Khandu and Hon’ble Union Power Minister, Sh. R.K. Singh.
The portfolio of SJVN is now 55527 MW. The company is on rapid progression to achieve its Shared Vision of being a 25000 MW company by 2030 & 50000 MW by 2040. This Shared Vision has been formulated in sync with the commitment of the Government of India of generating 50% of energy from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030.
