SJVN’s NMHEP First Unit Commences Commercial Operation, Bolstering India’s Energy Landscape

SHIMLA, India – November 24, 2023 – In a significant leap towards India’s sustainable energy goals, SJVN, a frontrunner in hydropower development, proudly announces the commercial operation of the first unit of its 60 MW Naitwar Mori Hydro Electric Project (NMHEP). This momentous achievement marks a pivotal step in SJVN‘s unwavering commitment to harnessing clean and renewable energy sources for the nation’s growing power needs.

The successfully synchronized 30 MW unit, following rigorous testing procedures, has seamlessly integrated with the national grid, propelling SJVN’s total generation capacity to an impressive 2122 MW from 2091.50 MW. This remarkable feat underscores the company’s unwavering dedication to sustainable energy solutions.

Located on the River Tons, a major tributary of the River Yamuna in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, the NMHEP is a run-of-the-river project poised to revolutionize the region’s energy landscape. With an anticipated annual electricity generation of 265.5 million units, the project will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in fulfilling the region’s burgeoning energy demands.

Additionally, each Project Associated Family will receive an amount equivalent to the cost of 100 Units of electricity per month for ten years, demonstrating the company’s dedication to empowering local communities.
