SCOPE’s Public Procurement Workshop in Shillong Sparks Dialogue on Efficiency and Transparency

Shillong, March 2, 2024 : A symphony of voices from the public and private sectors resonated in Shillong as the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), alongside the Competition Commission of India (CCI), orchestrated a dynamic workshop delving into the intricacies of ‘Public Procurement- Issues and Challenges and Sharing of Experiences of Best Practices.’

The event, inaugurated by the distinguished Smt. Ravneet Kaur, Chairperson of CCI, witnessed the convergence of senior officials from CCI, Government e-Marketplace (GeM), and diverse Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) across the country. The 85 participants, representing 31 PSEs, engaged in robust discussions on the complexities and triumphs of public procurement.

In her inaugural address, Smt. Ravneet Kaur underscored the global imperative for a resilient market system that nurtures healthy competition. She applauded SCOPE for its foresight in tackling the nuanced subject, highlighting the growing significance of Competition Law in fostering a thriving economic ecosystem.

Ms. Anupama Anand, Secretary of CCI, echoed the sentiment, characterizing public procurement as a multifaceted endeavor with far-reaching implications. She lauded workshops like these as catalysts for transforming organizations towards more efficient, transparent, and innovative procurement practices.

Shri Atul Sobti, Director General of SCOPE, emphasized the pivotal role of public procurement in ensuring a transparent and efficient governance system. He shed light on SCOPE’s unwavering commitment to conducting workshops that address critical subjects, transcending geographical boundaries.

As SCOPE extends its educational outreach, another insightful workshop on ‘Right to Information’ is on the horizon, promising to further illuminate the corridors of knowledge in Shillong and beyond.
