“ONGC and TotalEnergies Collaborate: Pioneering Methane Emission Reduction”

Goa:6 Feb 2024:ONGC has inked a pivotal Cooperation Agreement with TotalEnergies during India Energy Week 2024 to conduct methane emissions detection and measurement campaigns using TotalEnergies’ innovative AUSEA technology. The agreement was signed by TotalEnergies’ Country Chair in India, Dr. Sangkaran Ratnam, and ONGC’s Director (Exploration), Sushma Rawat, on February 6, 2024.
This collaboration aligns with ONGC’s commitment to reducing methane emissions in India by 2030. Both companies, signatories of the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC) launched at COP28, aim for zero methane emissions by 2030.
ONGC joins a global roster of firms leveraging TotalEnergies’ AUSEA technology, mounted on drones, capable of detecting and measuring methane and carbon dioxide emissions accurately.
Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, expressed satisfaction in contributing to the fight against climate change, emphasizing the industry’s shared goal of zero methane emissions by 2030.
ONGC Chairman and CEO, Arun Kumar Singh, sees the AUSEA technology as instrumental in achieving their methane emission reduction targets, aiming for zero emissions by 2038. TotalEnergies, having halved its methane emissions between 2010 and 2020, is committed to further reductions, aligning with the United Nations Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP 2.0) framework and maintaining OGMP Gold standard status for three consecutive years.
