“BPCL’s Alkaline Electrolyser: India’s Green Hydrogen Leap at IEW 2024”

Goa : IEW-24: In a momentous development at the India Energy Week 2024 in Goa, a significant milestone was achieved by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a key player in the energy sector.
The first indigenous alkaline electrolyser, a groundbreaking achievement, was reviewed by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

The operation of this prototype, developed collaboratively by BPCL and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), was showcased to the Prime Minister by Shri G. Krishnakumar, C&MD of BPCL. The technology, representing a pivotal advancement in industrial-scale application, demonstrates high cell efficiency and robustness in an alkaline environment.

Aligned with India’s target to produce 5 million tons of green hydrogen by 2030, BPCL strategically plans a 5 MW Green Hydrogen Plant at Bina Refinery.

Furthermore, a 500 KW capacity Integrated Hydrogen Refueling Station is set to be established at CIAL.

This initiative underscores BPCL’s commitment to India’s pursuit of Energy Independence through initiatives like “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat” and “Vocal for Local,” actively contributing to the nation’s self-sufficiency in the energy sector.

  • In the IEW 2024 Hydrogen Pavilion, BPCL is showcasing ongoing efforts, aiming to spotlight India’s indigenous capabilities in the hydrogen domain, garnering significant interest from technocrats and industry stakeholders.
