BPCL Hosts Compressed Biogas Workshop: Catalyzing India’s Green Energy Transition

27-Feb-2024: In a strategic move towards sustainable energy solutions, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Fortune 500 Maharatna Energy Conglomerate, orchestrated a groundbreaking workshop in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and GAIL. The event, held on 26th February 2024, at the Renaissance Bengaluru Race Course Hotel, Bengaluru, Karnataka, aimed to propel the adoption of Compressed Biogas (CBG) as a key player in India’s energy transition.

Stakeholders from diverse sectors, including bank officials, CBG producers, entrepreneurs, and representatives from organizations such as the World Bank and the Indian Biogas Association, participated in the workshop. Discussions centered around CBG’s pivotal role in India’s energy landscape and its contribution to the SATAT initiative.

The workshop set the stage for a visit to a CBG plant on February 27, 2024, providing participants with hands-on insights into CBG production processes. Shri Anurag Saraogi, CGM Biofuels, BPCL, highlighted the workshop’s significance in sensitizing bank officials about financing CBG projects and fostering a deeper understanding of CBG’s potential.

Shri Arun Kumar, Director of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, emphasized CBG’s critical importance in achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. Key aspects, including financing, technical evaluation, and project implementation best practices, were thoroughly explored.

Shri Ramesh Krishna, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, in his keynote address, underscored India’s strategic vision for sustainable energy and CBG’s pivotal role in realizing these objectives. The event brought together key industry players, including Mr. Vibhor Srivastava from MoPNG, Scientist Mr. Bikas from MNRE, and Mr. Subhashish Parida from DDWS.*

BPCL’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions was further exemplified by the presence of Shri Anoop Taneja, State Head, Karnataka Retail, and their dedicated team members. The event facilitated collaboration, insightful discussions, and the exchange of ideas to accelerate CBG adoption in India.
