BPCL's Green Vision Takes Flight: Collaborates with CIAL to Set Up Groundbreaking Green Hydrogen Plant at Kochi Airport
Mumbai/ Thiruvananthapuram, 14th February 2024: In a groundbreaking stride towards eco-friendly energy, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has partnered with Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) to establish India’s first Integrated Green Hydrogen Plant and fuelling station at Kochi Airport. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed outlines plans for a 1,000 KW project, set to be completed by 2025.
This strategic collaboration not only reinforces BPCL’s dedication to sustainable energy but also positions India at the forefront of the global green hydrogen landscape. The plant, powered by renewable energy, aligns with BPCL’s Net Zero goals, aiming to eliminate emissions in scope 1 and 2.
The MOU signing ceremony, graced by Shri. Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, and Chairman of CIAL, marked a pivotal moment in the pursuit of cleaner energy solutions. Shri G. Krishnakumar, C&MD, BPCL, emphasized the commitment to India’s energy independence and the vision of ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Vocal for Local.’
Under the agreement, BPCL will spearhead the establishment and operation of the green hydrogen plant, providing technology and overseeing the fuelling station’s management.
The initiative not only propels BPCL’s green aspirations but also marks a significant milestone in sustainable fuel infrastructure, heralding the advent of green hydrogen in Southern India.
