THDCIL Achieves Milestone with COD of Unit #1 at 1320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant

Rishikesh, January 26: “The declaration of the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for Unit #1 of the Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant is a proud moment for THDC India Limited,” said Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, CMD, THDCIL, as the company marked a significant achievement in India’s power sector. The 660 MW unit, part of the 1320 MW Khurja STPP, was declared commercially operational at midnight on January 25, 2025, after successful synchronization, full-load testing, and a 72-hour trial run.
This milestone signals the plant’s readiness to generate and supply reliable electricity to key regions, including Uttar Pradesh (64.7%), Rajasthan (21.3%), Uttarakhand (3.9%), and unallocated areas (10.1%), bolstering India’s energy security.
Environmental Sustainability
Equipped with a cutting-edge Flue Gas De-sulphurization (FGD) system, the plant reduces sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions, aligning with global environmental standards.

The plant’s foundation stone was laid by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, and it complements other key THDCIL projects, such as the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Plant and 444 MW Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project.
This achievement underlines THDCIL’s commitment to sustainable and efficient energy solutions for India’s growth.
