Jai Bharat, Tehri, June 9, 2025: THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has announced a landmark achievement with the successful commissioning and regulatory approval of Unit-I (250 MW) of the Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) (4×250 MW), declared operational for commercial use from 00:00 hrs on June 7, 2025. This milestone elevates THDC’s total installed and commercial capacity to 2,497 MW, marking a significant leap in India’s renewable energy and grid stability landscape.

Tehri PSP: A Leap Toward Energy Self-Reliance The 1,000 MW (4×250 MW) Tehri PSP, India’s first variable speed pumped storage plant, is set to play a pivotal role in renewable energy integration and grid resilience. By converting off-peak surplus energy into peak-hour electricity, the project ensures 24/7 power availability. THDC’s Chairman and Managing Director, Shri R.K. Vishnoi, stated, “This achievement is a step toward making the Tehri Hydro Power Complex, with 2,400 MW capacity, India’s largest hydropower hub.”

Trending Focus: Sustainable Energy and Digital Innovation The project underscores India’s commitment to sustainable energy. Advanced hydropower technology supplied by GE Vernova and civil works executed by HCC have made this initiative a symbol of digital innovation and technological excellence. Union Power Minister, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar praised the milestone, saying, “This is not just a technical triumph for THDC but a bold stride toward India’s energy self-reliance.”
