SJVN organized Motivational Talk by Dr Arunima Sinha on International Women’s Day 2021

SHIMLA: International Women’s Day 2021 was commemorated by SJVN to celebrate increasing visibility of women in global development and acknowledging their struggle in overcoming gender stereotypes and inequality. The Function was inaugurated by Mrs. Geeta Kapur, Director (Personnel), SJVN in the presence of Sh. D.P. Kaushal CGM(HR) and other Senior Officers of SJVN.On this occasion, a Motivational Talk by Padma Shri Awardee, renowned Motivational Speaker and Mountaineer, Dr. Arunima Sinha (World’s First Female Amputee to Climb Mt. Everest) was organized for women employees & members of Satluj Shree (SJVN Officers Ladies Club).

Dr. Arunima Sinha shared her experiences and her life story of being pushed from a running train by robbers while she was resisting them and losing her leg after doctors amputated it, to save her life. She narrated her journey of overcoming the difficulties and shared tips on handling challenges and staying positive in the face of adversities.  She said that every women’s achievement should be a source of inspiration, which would enable others to grow stronger and bring in gender equality. Addressing the participants, Smt. Geeta Kapur, Director (Personnel), SJVN stated that the theme of IWD this year is #ChooseToChallenge, and in this context the story, struggle & success of Dr. Arunima Sinha is a living example of exceptional will power, resolve and grit. Mrs. Geeta Kapur stated, that lessons must be learnt from the incredible struggle of such women who have paved the way for others to follow. SJVN celebrates IWD every year to encourage its women employees to individually and collectively bring in change, which would be harbinger of a more humane and a better world.   On this occasion a health talk by Dr. Sukhram Chauhan was also organized for the benefit of all the women who attended this function. Dr. Chauhan gave various tips to lead a healthy and happy life.

Padma Shri awardee Dr Arunima Sinha is Indian volleyball player, Mountaineer, Motivational Speaker and the World’s first Female Amputee to scale Mount Everest, Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Mount Elbrus (Russia), Mount Kosciusko (Australia), Mount Aconcagua (South America), Carstensz Pyramid (Indonesia) and Mount Vinson (Antartica). Her biography ‘Born Again on the Mountain has been published in English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati & Maithli.
