REC Deploys 5 Mobile Medical Units in Uttarakhand to Strengthen Women’s Healthcare

Dehradun: In a significant boost to healthcare services in Uttarakhand, REC Limited, a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Power and a leading NBFC, has provided five Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) under its ‘Doctor Aapke Dwaar’ CSR initiative. Financial support amounting to ₹6.01 crore has been extended for the procurement and operation of these units.
The initiative was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, in the presence of Health Minister Shri Dhan Singh Rawat, Health Secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Director General Health Dr. Sunita Tamta, and senior officials from REC and CSC Academy.

The five MMUs have been deployed across three districts — Haridwar (2 units), Udham Singh Nagar (2 units), and Tehri Garhwal (1 unit) — with a special focus on remote and underserved regions. Equipped with essential diagnostic and treatment facilities, these units will operate six days a week, delivering free primary healthcare services at the doorstep of marginalized populations.
In a gender-sensitive move, one of the five MMUs has been dedicated exclusively to women’s healthcare. Staffed entirely by female medical professionals, this unit aims to address the specific health needs of women in conservative and hard-to-reach areas.
The operations of these MMUs will be closely coordinated with the Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) and the Uttarakhand State Health Department, ensuring alignment with government healthcare programs and continuity of care.
This project is being seen as a key contributor to the state government’s vision of “Healthy Uttarakhand, Prosperous Uttarakhand,” and is expected to play a vital role in strengthening last-mile healthcare delivery.
It is noteworthy that REC Foundation’s ‘Doctor Aapke Dwaar’ initiative is already active in several other states, including Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab. REC Limited has reiterated its commitment to bridging the rural healthcare gap and empowering communities through impactful CSR initiatives.
