New Delhi: Most Oil & Gas sector observers are intrigued how nowadays every Selection of a board-level executive in PSUs becomes mired in controversy and politics. NewsIP wants to bring to the knowledge of its esteemed readers that once again the Selection to the post of Director(Technical), ONGC has become embroiled in a contentious debate even before the actual process of singling out a candidate starts.
In fact, what has generated much confusion is the List of 11 Candidates who have been shortlisted. It is being said that the One Candidate in the list does not seem to have Vigilance Clearance, while the Second Candidate apparently lacks Technical Expertise. How they got shortlisted is what experts are also asking.
Reportedly, Corporate Insiders are discussing the fact that the roles of a Director in ONGC and a Director at OVL are under scrutiny. Insiders claim it is regarding the procurement of high valued instruments. There is also talk of how some Officials in the Ministry are playing the role of a ‘ Fire Brigade’. Meanwhile, the announcement of the Interview for ONGC Director (T& FS) position has been made, scheduled for 02 Dec. 2024. Who will actually emerge victorious in the race remains to be seen. The big question is whether the history of ONGC’s top leadership will repeat itself for this post as well.
Then there is another section of Oil veterans who opine that ONGC, being what it is has been viewed by the powers to be from a different angle also. There have attempts to impose “Outsiders” to counter the strong “Insiders” lobby. They cite Col. Wahi, Subir Raha, current Chairman ..Singh and Dir(HR) Manish Patil as examples.
This section strongly believes that for the position of Dir (T&FS) some one from BP will be brought in. As is well known BP is rapidly expanding its footprints across India after the initial lull. This would also in the long run leverage BP interests. As regards the Current List already published well PESB with its penchant for rejecting all candidates can surely be trusted to do so once again and the Search Committee route adopted. Whatever happens the stage is once again set for another round of sinister corporate intrigues!
