Shri Trailukya Borgohain has been appointed as the Director (Operations) of Oil India Limited (OIL), a Maharatna CPSE, on 17 December 2024, at a crucial juncture for the organization. OIL, India’s oldest oil and gas Exploration and Production (E&P) company, is grappling with challenges such as declining reserves, the push for sustainable energy transitions, and maintaining global competitiveness.
Shri Borgohain, a seasoned E&P professional with over three decades of experience, is well-equipped to address these hurdles. A native of Bhadoi Panchali, Assam, he joined OIL in 1995 as an Executive Trainee and has since been instrumental in key oil and gas discoveries across Assam, Rajasthan, and Gabon. His innovative leadership during his tenure as General Manager of OIL’s Gabon Exploration Project (2017–2021) is a testament to his problem-solving skills.
An alumnus of IIT Roorkee with an MSc in Applied Geology and an MBA in Energy Leadership from Texas A&M University, Shri Borgohain brings a blend of technical expertise and strategic acumen. His professional accomplishments include 36 exploration evaluation reports, presentations at international forums, and leadership roles in industry associations such as APG India, AAPG, and SPE.
Shri Borgohain’s previous role as Chief General Manager (Geology & Reservoir) saw him spearhead initiatives to accelerate oil and gas field development in Upper Assam—experience that will be crucial in tackling OIL’s current challenges.
His appointment signals a strategic shift towards innovation and operational excellence. As Director (Operations), Shri Borgohain’s leadership will be pivotal in driving sustainable growth and addressing the pressing challenges in India’s energy sector.
