NMDC Limited Bolsters Board with Strategic Appointment of Government Director

In a move poised to enhance governance and strategic oversight, NMDC Limited, a leading public sector enterprise in India’s mining sector, has announced the appointment of Shri Ashish Chatterjee as Government Director on its Board of Directors, effective June 11, 2025. The decision, communicated by the Ministry of Steel, Government of India, underscores NMDC’s commitment to aligning with national priorities and leveraging cutting-edge expertise to drive sustainable growth.
Shri Ashish Chatterjee, a seasoned Indian Administrative Service officer from the 1999 Tamil Nadu cadre, brings a wealth of experience to NMDC’s boardroom. With a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, his 25-year career spans pivotal roles in state and central governance. Notably, he has served as District Collector across multiple Tamil Nadu districts, spearheading grassroots development, and has driven urban governance initiatives in Chennai. At the central level, his tenure as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and as a nominee director on the boards of GAIL (India) Ltd., IOCL, and EIL has equipped him with deep insights into policy formulation and strategic decision-making in the energy sector.

Since April 2025, Shri Chatterjee has been serving as Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Steel, where he has been instrumental in shaping fiscal strategies for the steel industry. His appointment is expected to catalyze NMDC’s innovation-driven agenda, particularly in navigating the complexities of the global commodity market and advancing digital transformation initiatives.

The board’s composition has been further strengthened with Shri Abhijit Narendra continuing his role as Government Director, ensuring continuity in strategic vision.
