NMDC CMD’s role under question!

New Delhi: NewsIP’s top level sources have revealed that a complaint has been filed before the Steel Minister of the Government of India, in which serious allegations have been made against NMDC’s Finance Director and Additional Charge CMD Mr. Amitav Mukherjee of changing the powers of the post of CMD of NMDC without the approval of the Board and manipulating contracts and projects in exchange for bribes from contractors.

The complaint further states that the CMD has made changes in these powers without the approval of the Board so that he can do whatever he wants. He is also accused of improper conduct and taking compromise decisions, in which a group of corrupt officials is extorting money from suppliers and contractors. Such things have also been mentioned. The allegations made in the complaint are very serious which can be the subject of investigation.

NewsIP had sought clarification from NMDC and the Ministry of Steel on these serious allegations, so that the truth can be revealed. NMDC’s corporate division, in a reply sent to NewsIP, has said that, for faster decision making, the delegation of powers was amended, in which changes can be made only for employees and administrative ministry. Work is assigned as per the Material Management and Contract Management Manual.

NMDC claims that it has adequate internal controls for corporate governance compliance.

Conclusion: We have let our readers know about the allegations against NMDC’s CMD and the clarification sent by NMDC. The company’s clarification and the allegations against the CMD have opened the door for investigation.

Readers should also be informed that Shri Amitava Mukherjee, holding the current CMD tenure, had also recently applied for the post of CMD of HUDCO, for which he was also shortlisted. Still, it was told that he was missing on the day of the interview.
