NHPC’s 2000MW hydroelectric project, which has been delayed for years, is expected to begin partial operations in March 2025. The company’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) announced that all three units, each with a capacity of 250 MW, will be operational by the deadline. However, technical experts have expressed skepticism, indicating that only one unit is likely to meet the target.
Construction is currently moving at a rapid pace, with the final work on radial gates 4, 5, and 6 anticipated to be completed within the next 60 days. Two of the generating units are reportedly in full readiness, having completed the GIS system setup and successfully undergone high-voltage testing.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding full commissioning, the project is progressing and is expected to start generating power in phases beginning in March 2025.
