NewsIP expresses its heartfelt condolences on loss of lives and injury to Cricket Fans in Bangalore.

It was Washington Irving who had said- In Literature as in Finance much paper and much poverty may co exist. One can say the same about the Indian Mainstream Media today. Much Verbiage and Sloganeering seems to be the norm. While reporting on the sad and unfortunate Bangalore Cricket fans incident one Mainstream Media went on to state something similar to this- That it is not the death of 11 Individuals but 11 Stories. It appears that stories were above lives for them.

Anyway, it may not be the time for nit picking but Media should remember that it is today very powerful and words are capable of causing hurt. The stringent reporting, shrill voices, uncensored pictures, choice of words all tend to weigh upon the collective psyche of the common man. On such occasions, we must learn to be above mere TRPs and Circulation.
