New Delhi: The application deadline for the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), considered a subsidiary of ONGC, has now ended.
According to NewsIP sources, just under 50 candidates have applied for this prestigious position. Although NewsIP has the list of names, it has been deemed inappropriate to release it to the public domain at this stage.
Readers may recall that in the earlier interview for the HPCL CMD post, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) found none of the candidates suitable for the role. At that time, PESB stated that none of the present candidates were capable of taking on the responsibilities of the CMD position. Therefore, a Search-cum-Selection Committee was ordered to be formed to identify a new CMD.
This Search-cum-Selection Committee includes Petroleum Secretary Mr. B. Ashok and the Chairperson of PESB. Now, all eyes are on whether the committee will select one of the candidates previously rejected in the interview or give an opportunity to someone new.
It will also be interesting to see what approach the committee adopts. Will the criteria used for selecting the Chairman of IOCL be applied to the HPCL CMD post, or will a new process be followed this time? The committee’s working style will be closely watched by all.
