Landslide Hits Teesta-V Power Station: NHPC Expert Team Rushes to Assess Damage

The Teesta Basin Region, prone to natural subsidence and landslides during the monsoon season, has witnessed another incident of landslide at the NHPC 510 MW Teesta-V Power Station in Sikkim. The recent landslide, triggered by subsidence, has damaged the Tail Race Tunnel (TRT) outlet structure and affected the GIS Building.

Assessment and Restoration Underway

The power station, still recovering from the devastating flash flood of October 2023, is currently non-operational. NHPC’s expert team from the Corporate Office has been dispatched to assess the situation, evaluate losses, and devise a plan for remedial works. The team’s prompt response aims to mitigate the damage and ensure the power station’s swift restoration.
