IOCL looses vital court case.

NewsIP Legal Correspondent has filed a report informing that an Association of Retired Employees of Indian Oil Corporation has won a case in the Delhi High Court against Indian Oil. The judgement was passed by Honourable Madam Judge Ms Jyoti Singh of Delhi High Court.
It appears there was a long pending demand for equitable Superannuation Benefit which was denied and contested by the Management of Indian Oil. NewsIP team has found that the Superannuation Benefit Fund scheme when introduced in Indian Oil was one of its kind and promised the much needed relief in form of fixed monthly payment without any linkage with DA as is mostly the case of most Pension Schemes. Over a period of time the fixed monthly amount being given by Indian Oil became a mere token and the retired employees condition became pitiable.
The rising costs and inflation made even hand to mouth existence impossible for those employees who had given their youth to the Corporation and what was then thought working in a PSE was part of nation building. Despite several requests Indian Oil, flatly refused any enhancement. Though promised support when the fund was initially formulated the Corporation later withdrew its hand making the fund unviable. Government also played a rather unflattering role when it froze most employee related welfare payments under the 7th Pay Commission. This made an Association of Retired Employees to knock the door of court.
Readers will recall, NewsIP has been consistently reporting on PSEs contribution to the nation’s economy. It’s one sector which has generated employment opportunities in India where most others have failed. The employees of any organization are basically responsible for its performance. Despite the Officers & Staff working tirelessly to uplift the PSEs, most times against great challenges, they often do not receive their due. In the autumn of their life if promises held out by Managements to retired employees are not fulfilled they feel betrayed and totally helpless. It’s to be seen whether this time round the Judgement of the Delhi court is heeded to by those in power or it remains just a mirage.
