GAIL Signs Historic LNG Charter Contract with “K” LINE, Boosting India’s Energy Future

The landmark contract was signed in the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Mr. R. K. Jain, GAIL Director (Finance); Mr. Sanjay Kumar, GAIL Director (Marketing); and Mr. R. K. Singhal, GAIL Director (Business Development). Representing GAIL and “K” LINE, the agreement was formalized by Mr. S. Bairagi, GAIL Executive Director (Mktg.-Shipping & Intl. LNG), and Mr. Satoshi Kanamori, Managing Executive Officer (LNG, Carbon Solution Business) of “K” LINE.GAIL

This strategic partnership marks the first long-term time charter contract between GAIL and “K” LINE for a newly built LNG vessel, which is slated to begin operations in 2027. The advanced LNG ship will feature a cutting-edge two-stroke design and a tank capacity of 1,74,000 cubic meters, built by Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., Korea. With its state-of-the-art technology, the vessel aligns with global sustainability goals, ensuring efficient and eco-friendly transportation of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG).

GAIL’s existing LNG fleet, comprising vessels like **GAIL Bhuwan**, **GAIL Urja**, **Grace Emilia**, and **Maran Gas Pericles**, will soon be bolstered by the addition of two more ships next year, including another newbuilt vessel. This expansion reflects GAIL’s commitment to delivering clean energy solutions to meet rising global and domestic demand.

The company’s robust LNG sourcing portfolio, exceeding **15 MMTPA**, is sourced from diverse geographies, primarily on FOB and DES terms, with significant volumes transported from North America. GAIL’s diversified logistics strategy underlines its pivotal role in bridging domestic energy needs and international market demands, reinforcing India’s energy security and sustainable development.
