BEE’s Programs Propel India’s Climate Action Success

New Delhi: 14, Dec.2023. India’s achievements in climate action were acknowledged by Union Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister R. K. Singh, emphasizing the pivotal role played by BEE’s world-leading programs. On National Energy Conservation Day 2023, President Smt. Droupadi Murmu highlighted the significance of energy conservation at a ceremony in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
She recognized winners of the National Energy Conservation Awards 2023, National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards 2023, and National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation 2023.

The gathering, comprising government, industry, civil society, and school representatives, was addressed by the President, stating that energy saved equates to energy produced, urging widespread dissemination of this message. Minister Singh credited India’s progress in energy conservation to BEE’s programs like Perform Achieve Trade and STAR Labelling Programme, instrumental in substantial carbon emissions reduction, aiding India in achieving climate action goals.

Minister Singh revealed that India surpassed its commitments made at COP21, reaching the target of 40% non-fossil-fuel power capacity by 2021 and reducing emissions intensity by 33% in 2019.

He launched BEE’s Annual Report (2022-23) on the Impact of Energy Efficiency Measures and affirmed India’s commitment to achieving 65% non-fossil-fuel power capacity by 2030. Minister of State for Power and Heavy Industries, Shri Krishan Pal, stressed the importance of energy conservation, lauding initiatives like STAR Labelling Programme and Perform Achieve Trade Scheme.

Secretary, Ministry of Power, Shri Pankaj Agarwal, emphasized the collective responsibility of National Energy Conservation Day, highlighting India’s leadership in global efforts for sustainable initiatives and a greener planet.

He noted India’s role in developing a roadmap during the G-20 Presidency to double the global rate of energy efficiency by 2030, fostering environmental benefits and conservation efforts worldwide.
