100 Great IITians Honoured at Jio World Centre, Mumbai

Mumbai, January 18, 2025: A grand ceremony at the Jio World Centre, Mumbai, celebrated the exceptional contributions of 100 IITians who have dedicated their lives to nation-building. Organized by PanIIT Alumni India during the ‘PIWOT – World of Technology’ event (January 17-19, 2025), the ceremony showcased the achievements of these luminaries who chose to stay in India or return after gaining global experience.

The event also marked the Mumbai launch of 100 Great IITians: Dedicated to the Service of the Nation, a book edited by Commander V.K. Jaitly, an IIT Kharagpur alumnus and Indian Navy veteran. Published by Excel India Publishers, the book celebrates IITians who prioritized India’s progress over Western opportunities.

The launch and felicitation ceremony, attended by distinguished guests, honored 15 IITians from Mumbai and other cities. Notable honorees included Shri R. Gopalakrishnan, Professor Deepak Phatak, Shri Pradeep Gupta, and Prof. Prabhat Ranjan. Posthumous tributes were given to Late Krishan Khanna and Late Y.C. Deveshwar, with their families receiving mementos on their behalf.

Due to an exigency, Shri Uday Vishwanath Deshpande, a Padma Shri awardee known as ‘Mallakhamb Vishwa Guru,’ served as Chief Guest. Professors Abhay Karandikar and Devendra Jalihal graced the event as Guests of Honour.

The book’s editor, Commander Jaitly, emphasized the invaluable contributions of these IITians to India’s advancement in technology and innovation. Proceeds from the book will support charitable causes, including scholarships for underprivileged IIT aspirants and tribal village development.

This inspiring initiative is hailed as a beacon for the younger generation, embodying the spirit of service and the vision for a developed India by 2047.
