‘Sabki Rasoi’ – a virtual kitchen for people in urgent need of food for their survival, has been a massive success throughout the country feeding a whopping number of 14.98 lakh meals in a span of just 10 days. This Initiative was started by the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) to ensure that, at the very least, no one loses their battle to hunger during this pandemic of COVID – 19. Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) which usually has repute expertise in devising and implementing Election Strategies for Political Parties, had given a thought to the immense misery and suffering of the people during this stage of exigency.
This Virtual Kitchen which was kicked-off on 5th April, to provide freshly cooked food to those belonging to the bottom of the pyramid migrant labourers, daily-wage earners, and homeless, had been operational in 32 cities across the country which includes the nation’s capital Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Patna, Hyderabad and others.
Around 2.2 Lakh freshly cooked meals have been delivered in Delhi (NCR) till date through this Virtual Kitchen at the points of Vasant Kunj, Old Mustafabad, ITO Metro Station and 67 other locations.
I-PAC had collaborated with three sets of partners in the domains of:
Food preparation (large kitchens)
The food preparation partners with a proven track record, had deployed their expertise and resources to prepare food in their kitchens using the best industry practices;
Packaging and Delivery (food logistics)
The packaging and delivery partners had maintained the food logistics practices of the highest standard, which entailed hygienic packaging and timely delivery of meal packets;
Food distribution (grassroots feeding organisations)
The food distribution partners had served the meals in a dignified and compassionate manner to those in need. These entities were institutions that were able to serve 50 or more people in their identified vicinities.
All the partners of this initiative were committed and had made every possible effort, to strictly adhere to the government rules and guidelines for the lockdown. They had ensured complete compliance with the mandated norms of social distancing and had taken precautions to avoid crowding in public and semi-public places.
During this phase of this Kitchen (upto April 14th), around 1,000 professionals and willing individuals had worked together to serve up to 1.5 lakh meals per day across hundreds of locations in the selected cities.
